Reader-added tags include "Sanae-san's tactics win", "Meat-like objects", and "Tactician cook Sanae-san".

The survey's set to slim down:

    Diet, go!
    • Tofu
    • Konjac
    • Mushrooms
    • Cucumbers
    • Water only

Sanaewife has a limited cooking range. You can do so much more to have tasty food that is healthier than usual. Instead of making hamburgers you can make turkey burgers. Not only do they smell better (the fragrance of the meat will fill a room and linger) but they have less sodium, less saturated fat, fewer calories, and more calcium. There is more cholesterol and less protein than beef but the advantages outweigh the drawbacks.
Then again, Sanaewife is probably limited in her shopping by prices and availability of certain meats since she lives in Japan.

I am sure it is fine. This is just a silly comic strip.

When you have limited resources, dishes tend to be more creative.

For the poll, it's mushroom as meat substitute and tofu as the volumizer. Season it with some light soy sauce, saute on high heat (gas stove is a must, since you'll be tossing them a bit - something I can't do with induction stove, for some reason) for a few minutes... Mmm! Of course, you should add some veggies into the mix as well. I recommend cabbages, carrots, asparagus and some snow peas.

Concerning the poll - shrooms! Fried, stewed, baked mushrooms or soups - instant favourites!

Ehh... try to stick to lean proteins, don't neglect your veggies, eat less calories then you burn (either naturally or augmented with exercise) and don't make yourself miserable either eating stuff you don't like or avoiding eating things you do.

That's the sane answer at any rate.

Isn't beef very expensive in Japan and isn't much beef in Japan of a sorta lower quality than in North America/Europe?

By "lower quality" I mean it's more gristly or something? Obviously Japan has really good beef like the Wagyu beef but I've most beef there is of lessor quality due to meat being expensive in Japan. Is any of this true?

I can't speak for the quality, but I've read that the price is due mostly to rarity, since, well...there isn't a ton of flat grassland laying around that isn't more efficiently used for growing crops.
