I actually did a little YouTube research to see what the Hell this guy was talking about, and it looks like he's actually right. The Shoryuken is apparently performed with the raised knee on the same side as the punching fist, whereas the Tiger Uppercut is performed with the opposite knee raised.

How the Hell anyone would know this and actually get offended by it, though, is beyond me.

I'm inclined to believe they put the his pose that way because, regardless of the accuracy of the attack itself, that's simply the way Mario and Luigi traditionally jump. I think it would have actually looked a little odd otherwise.
