On the opposite shore is the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Aioi Bridge that's currently being crossed by a streetcar.Aioi Bridge is very unusual for being T-shaped. Since the bridge was easily visible from above, it was chosen as the target point. In the summer of 1945, an atomic bomb was detonated above this place and destroyed the city center.Every year on August 6th, many residents gather here for the lantern festival.In the next summer, battleship Nagato was far away from her home port Kure, in the Bikini Lagoon in the pacific.
