He's Japanese, and 9/11 did affect Japan in some way (Fuji Bank was one of the affected Japanese companies, having its American headquarters located in the impact zone of Flight 175 in 2 World Trade Center)

The architect of the WTC was a Japanese American, and if you look at the records, there were dozens of Japanese banks, software companies and so forth in the buildings.
