Well, there was the RF IR Konami Hyperbeam.

Yeah, they had wireless SNES controllers back in the day, but you had to point the controller directly at the receiver for any semblance of a good connection.

I had a pair of controllers like that for my N64. Apparently the cat knew how they worked, since he decided to sit right in front of the receiver.

There was the Wireless 4way adapter for the original NES. Ran off infrared but even so.
