Perfect thing to do, make a fake diary log to trick others into staying for a bit. Then, when they're too stuck, trigger the trap.

Why not trigger the trap immediately instead of waiting for the "fake" diary to end?

You mean that Medicine was released immediately when Tewi touched the computer? That makes more sense, but then why would Eirin warn them with an alarm then? Why not keep them busy while Medicine sneaks on them?
