I'm trying to figure out why this is a thing, since there are actually a few Homika X Mei pics. Is there any specific reason for these two to be together? Or did one person do one and everyone else just thought it was a good idea?

People like Homika. Mei is the protagonist. Thus, it's only natural that an artist who likes yuri would pair them together, if she or he wanted to have Homika in a yuri pairing.
