Neither the story nor the setting made any sense, all the villains seemed to be motivated by was "for the evulz", as TV Tropes would put it, but at least he didn't turn a good novel into toilet paper as he did in Starship Troopers (IIRC he stopped reading it half or a third way in and had a flunkie summarise the rest to him).
