I don't know but Ichirin somehow strikes me as someone who is also too surprised to be cast into the new fighting game. She somehow feels like, "Eh? I'm going to star in the next Touhou game?!"
Really, I was not expecting the Buddhist Inquisition!

NOOOOOOOOOOOBODY EXPECTS THE BUDDHIST INQUISITION!
Keo said: Mmmhmm, me too. Extremely happy she got in and this is actually one of the first time I'm okay with one of the newer character making into the games.
Heck, the entire fandom(as far as i see) is fine with it and it makes me happy. She also seems to be a good character to use, teamworking with unzan.
I think so too, she is currently the character I got the best performance with. Certainly quite smooth to use overall.

That's odd. I think she's the least advantaged overall among the three demo characters.
Reimu is very mobile, as she can 'jump' in the air ('the ability to float' indeed) and is very annoying as a hit&run character, and she can easily send you back to the other side of the screen (or flee herself, since she's got Yukari's border teleportation). She also has good pokes that are faster and has better range than Ichirin's.
Marisa has very dense projectiles/lasers (you'll get stopped while trying to dash through them) and she's quite fast, and although less mobile than Reimu, she can move through the screen (or diagonally down to punish those who aren't fast enough to get close to her from below) while easily hit-confirm you (her moves has very little waiting frames, annoying). The most annoying thing, though is her capacity to zone: her broom's reach is huge, and she's surprisingly fast with it. She also has a Shoryuken-like that's fast and covers an insanely large area. She doesn't deal lots of damage though.
Ichirin is close-combat oriented, and considering the other opponents so far, she has trouble getting close to them. Still, she has lots of good combo, as Unzan is awesome for setups, and can dish out huge amount of damage with ease (Too bad the sky-oriented combat makes combo-trapping impractical). Her Unzan moves are all slow however, and she lacks projectile variety. The rage system is interesting, but kind of hard to take advantage of if you have to get close to your opponent first.
Ichirin is really fun to play if you can get past the chasing though.
Ya, Ichirin is definitally a bit under-handed out of the 3 demo characters. I'm sure Meirin is gonna play similar too. I mained Meirin in all the fighters so I'm a bit worried about she'll play now that we're in the air in a more Danmaku style play rather than Fighter play.

Was Meiling confirmed for 13.5? If so, with her old moves, she shouldn't have much trouble getting close compared to Ichirin, as she was more mobile and her 6C is awesome for chasing and combo chains in 12.3, not to mention her default 214B.
13.5 has an impending religious war so even the more popular SDM characters (and those from SA and games without much of that background) may not make it in. My guess is that apart from the MC duo it'll be just the UFO and 10D crowds, with Sanae possibly included as the Shinto (or some given value thereof) rep.
On the plus side that means fighting game conversions of many new characters but the downside is that most of the highly demanded favorites won't make it. The fact that everyone (including the three we know) is being redone from scratch for the new system means that there's no practical reason to reuse characters either.

Well, since the faith problem is related to youkai disturbing humans, it would make sense if they include some of the old incident-causing people, at least as story opponents (without giving a separated storyline each one, like it was for Okuu in hisoutensoku). This is because you don't win a religious war only by defeating your direct enemies, but you need to demonstrate that you are able to deal with other dangerous ppl. Of course Reimu already demonstrated this in every solved incident, but you can't say the same for the others.
I actually don't see why Remilia couldn't possibly make a comeback, something along the lines of "Screw Religion, I'm a freaking Vampire" or something. Komachi could make a return as a representive of Shikeiki to make sure this Religion war doesn't get too out of hand. Reisen could come back on orders of Kaguya/Eirin to oversee the Religion war and make sure it doesn't spill over to the Bamboo forest. Or maybe it already spilled over to the Bamboo Forest. I could go on to try and justify putting some of the old characters back in.

I doubt anyone without STRONG ties to Religion will be inserted. This is to win the hearts of the people, not to dominate them with the use of overwhelming force.
Since Okuu would be stuck manning the reactor, Kaenbyou Rin is in a perfect position to get in the game. Not only as a representative of the Underworld (which religions have differing interpretations of), but since all religions have rites dealing with the dead, Orin will want to have a piece of the corpse handling action.

Rin is one of the people to have been given something from Hijiri, this said, it's a little difficult to say which position she holds, considering, Utsuho is directed by the Moriyas and Rin the Myouren Temple.
I think we can expect four main groups who are probably going to be in on this: Hakurei, Moriya, Myouren, and the Taoists. We already have Reimu, Marisa, and Ichirin. Marisa is already an oddball position that fits none of those groups and seems to be included because she's a mainstay, unless our establishment of the plot by faith affiliation is too simple.
The "associations by faith" rule is also not as substantial if we consider previous rumors that a variety of characters are going to be included, e.g., those that were said to be dropped from Hisoutensoku for balancing issues.

Makes me wonder, shouldn't Marisa religion be count for other like Cathelic or even demon/satan-related(since she is a witch) since magic and witchcraft is technically associate with the more Western religions than the eastern.
Kind of hoping that Miyako and Futo would be playable characters in the full game. Like instead of Seiga, Miyako would be the one you control, with Seiga as the Unzan-like support.

Kinda like Alice.
It's Catholic, and Marisa seems to represent the casual syncretism if you see in most modern japanese. She gives respects to whatever seems more threatening/rewarding at a time, but lacks a religious mindset.

Makes sense, especially since you can choose which of the 3 religions to side with (Shinto, Buddhist, Taoist).
In the trial, as everybody should've known, that really cute character is playable!
Make sure to check it!
Peace, peace! She's going full-blown loli...During the winter Comiket 83, the trial of the new game from Touhou Project series, "Touhou Shinkirou" is on sale!
