It would make more sense with one of the witches as the alchemist - Patchouli actually makes the most sense, since the whole point is that the alchemist is weak and completely ineffectual without the things they create with alchemy and need others to be her bodyguard all the time.

Seems more likely, IMO, to be a pun on the name of the PC-98 platform for which the original Touhou games were made.
