Sadly, while I understand it, I am not good enough in English to make it sound right. It's basically very polite trash talk.

Well, when you live indefinitely, being too close and lovey-dovey would get very boring really fast. Having a little artificial/trivial conflict spices things up. Gensokyo as whole basically works like that with all its incidents.

Its funny as that kind of mindset suddenly makes every rivalry and friction-filled interaction somewhat suspicious.

What? They're pretty much arch-nemeses. Even though they can be polite around each other, they can't stand one another in the end.
