I've worked over seven years as a cashier and let me tell you this happens with people you know. You can't leave "the zone" and don't notice when someone special is around.

That's pretty depressing.

With the first translation, I couldn't even tell who of the two is working.

I hate it when Japanese is ambiguous on the person. I wish at least a 私 were standard part of the sentence so I knew who it was referring to...

Well, because in standard speech, who is speaking to who is already known to both parties. There is only 2 people here. But we are the ones looking at this from a 3rd party perspective.

Which just about renders it unknowable whether they're speaking about themselves, or asking the other party, doesn't it?
I also seem to have missed an episode, so the last one I remembered was Marisa offering to treat Reimu for her hard work, so I assumed she's shopping for dinner now (for some reason, in a head scarf), hence assuming Alice as the cashier.

Probably need to work on your japenese-fu. Reading it myself, I can easily understand it. Even though Alice's speech bubble doesn't have "I"(私), what Moonspeaker edited your translated to was how I was reading it.

Working on it for the third year going, but this feels like something I'm going to mess up forever. Good thing the JLPT doesn't have a translation unit, otherwise I'd be failing it for sure...

As a cashier myself, this deserves a "truth" tag.
