It sure is tricky expressing that height in one panel. (^^;) In reality, it was just mind-bogglingly high up. I didn't wet myself! :-)
Reader-added tags include "A form of water damage", "Kogasa: 'My dam has broken,'" and "Why is the paper umbrella blushing?"
The survey looks for alternate ways to test one's excretory fortitude:
Let's try this at the dam! • Rock climbing • Bungee jumping from the top • Diving into the dam's lake • Playing Whiteout (Yes, only four choices this time.)
Ah yes, slight disorientation, losing the sense of distance, and being light-headed from those adrenaline rush in your brain. The sensation like you want to fall into the sky, despite knowing the danger..
It never ceases to amaze me how heights can scare me to the point of not approaching them within more than two feet, but not being able to see over an edge makes me too curious.
With a railing that high (or a glass wall) I wouldn't have a problem because I know there is something between me and falling. When it is the edge of a roof or a cliff with no such barrier...that I get worried.
I'm not worried about heights too much, as long as there is a sufficient barrier in place to keep me from tumbling down. The only time I've ever had a problem was when I was getting a tour through a building while it was under construction. Looking down felt rather uncomfortable (there was nothing of a rail except for some string guiding where it was supposed to go.
Looks like Kogasa-san might have to go no-pan for the rest of the trip. Hopefully there won't be any strong updrafts.
For the poll, let's go bungee jumping from the top. That ought to be fun, right? As long as the cord doesn't snap!
I always think of the dam worker who explained that the walls are sloped ... and that, when people jump off, they leave a red streak several stories tall.

I myself am surprised at how I can freak out looking down from a 300m high building, but be perfectly fine looking out of a plane at 30,000ft. Little to no freakout even when I can see the plane gaining altitude (but the inclined state does make it a bit uncomfortable)

I can relate. I've got a fear of heights myself. Been a few times I've been on roofs several stories up, and no railings to speak of. When I get to where I have to do something on the edge, worst case scenarios just keep flashing through my mind.

I think it's just how you're perfectly encapsulated in planes, whereas even with chest-high walls there's a possibility you might get dragged over and fall.
