To be honest, they did disrespect him, treated him like a peasant, and then tried to invade his country. I'd say taking as many alive as he could and impaling after torturing the ambassadors who disrespected him was kinda deserved. Plus, they were heathens. Nobody will shed a tear for a filthy heretic.
