I haven't kept up with the game in years, but that sounds like a terrible decision. I get that handtraps are meant to prevent your opponent from creating unbreakable boards turn 1, but with nothing preventing the opponent from using them as an additional layer of protection to stop you from building your own board on turn 2 the decision to ban one of the few counters sounds plain stupid.

This is for the OCG, not TCG. OCG still has Maxx C and floodgates like Jowgen and Dimensional Barrier legal, so it's more biased towards control than combo compared to TCG.
