Sophisticated aliens up above must be disgusted at how stupid and barbaric humans are. Especially the male humans.

Remember that we've only been working at this for a few thousand years (between 5 and 50).

For all we know, we could be civilizing incredibly quickly compared to other intelligent races. But one thing's fairly certain, technology has for a very large part of that time outpaced our civility. There's an imbalance there, but it's far, far too late to try to stall innovation....we've got to work on not being dicks to one another.

As for sophisticated aliens watching us, if there are any, I'd *hope* they have enough objectivity to judge us based on our relatively short history and not just go 'Oh, those savages, killing one another.'

Well if those sophisticated aliens existed, they would just let us go on with our savagery and watch it all as it goes by for teh lulz.

    amu1988 said, translated into English:
History of human society is a motherfucking repeating cycle of sex, violence, lust and crime.

On the revolutionary note, my opinion is that all of these "bad" things have successfully allowed the humans to reach the top of food chain, to thrive in numbers and to outlive many other species.

Civilized men would not have been able to compete against the primitive beasts. The revolutionary path has necessary forced us to inherit many negative traits. And yet these traits may save us again in the future, should the notion of civilization be destroyed, through human stupidity (nuclear war) or forces of nature (ice age, meteor impacts).

I wonder if anyone realizes that even the "sophisticated aliens" probably went through the same fucking mistakes that we've made.

"Sophisticated aliens" my ass. No living being has reached that level of perfection yet, and probably never will. I'm pretty sure that the "sophisticated aliens" don't share a single cultural aspect. Why? Because they developed on a completely different god-forsaken planet.

And christ what the fuck happened here? Did all of the good people just suddenly up and not exist anymore? Martin Luther King? Gahndi? Mother Teresa?

No one is perfect. No society is perfect. We've made mistakes but god damn it give credit where credit is due.

Also we're learning as we go along. If a "properly morally guided" person today looked back on the human ancestors. They'd think "my god we were idiots and morons"

I've spoken with Catholics that thought that the burnings of heretics were barbaric, heard Germans call the Nazis the worst examples of sapient life, and seen people that, above all else, are willing to make personal sacrifices for the sake of others.

Just one quick comment in answer to "I wonder how historically accurate this is"...
Well, aside from 'artist interpretation... Notice the older Greek (Archimedes, Socrates, or Aristotle, I would assume) fondling a young boy? Yeah, I'd say it's pretty accurate, based on that alone. :)

I agree Icy. Our Civilizations is simply faaaaaabulous~ and I say that in an obviously stereotypical, obviously meant to be humorous voice.

I don't idealize our culture. I don't urge it towards needless barbarism either. I simply am at peace with it.

It is what it is, and that is all it shall ever be.

Take note though, I am something of a humorist and my philosophy is basically that of the existentialists.

We live in a blindly mechanistic universe that is determinalistic and has no explicitly stated purpose. So I'm okay with what seems abominable because I know at the end of the universal 'day', EVERYthing, EVERYwhere, will be completely cold, inert, and dead.

I didn't say I would win any prizes or friends for optimism.

Well yeah. Try to put the whole planet history in one pic. We be lucky to even think about typing.

Though image wise here. This one is rather truthful. But hey, as it is always said. We are bound to repeat the past. Yet we always do. Just with bigger and badder tools.

Actually, through thorough anthropological, archeological, and scientific research, we have enough evidence to suspect a longer time frame.
    Approximately 400,000 to 4,000,000 years.
But you may as well be right about everything else. especially about working on not being dicks.

i say the world is perfect the way it is.there is in a way a since of balance to us, humans are a little of everything, if we never have violence, then what the fuck would we do when we need it? If we didn't have peace then we wouldn't know how to live each other, if we couldn't live with each other what would we do if we were to discover another race such as aliens.

My educated guess? Treat them like a threat due to being used to the constant violence from our own species, go to war with them, lose, then blame God for our own mistakes.

I mean seriously, if mankind as a whole can't even get along with itself, how do you expect they'll get along with an alien species without some kind of badass planetary mental restraining device aimed at them?

    Ever heard of WW2?
The world almost perfectly unified in 2 factions. One who considered their way correct, and the other, who considered their way correct (human nature). (Cold war was even closer to the 2 way split...)

However, what if there is a 3rd party? a 3rd party, that is more threatening to parties 1 and 2, than each other? Of course, a temporary truce, elimination of threat. After that, either become somewhat wiser, or return to step one.

Also, I don't know why people think there are sophisticated aliens out there... noone ever thinks about the possibility, that we might have to be those sophisticated aliens? Noone ever thinks about being the pioneers of that wourld out there?

Although I would normally be one to agree with the usual comment of how little we've actually changed (and that was my initial reaction),

is right. Despite our long history of violence (I'm not touching the sex), we've made so many advances as a result of it. One of the most mundane yet useful and famous examples of this is duct tape. Most research done for military purposes meant to making killing each other easier have also lead to some of the greatest breakthroughs in written history.

Even the internet and computers you're using to look at that image or read this message is a result of that. Yes, all of these have brought upon less than savory qualities out of man (the internet especially) but that's merely a result of how we use them. Human beings have the potential of doing so much more good. But just as they say, the world is bad because the good remain silent.

The me some 5 or so years ago would probably look at my message now and think "What the hell is this faggot going on about. The world sucks, deal with it. Just go out to the streets or watch the news and you'll see." Except I still do that. Human beings can change for the better, even if not by their actions but at least by their outlooks. And that's one step away from doing charity work at an orphanage that the old me would never have imagined himself doing now.
