He's from an older era, and Yasuhiko Yoshikazu's male designs span the gamut from comical, ugly, cute, brutish, and pretty boy. If Crusher Joe and maybe Amuro are pretty boys, and Ryu and Talos are brute/"ugly", then Kai and Ricky would fall into the comical grouping.
