So apparantly this is official art that traces back to a "Music Floppy Disk" officially sold by Gainax circa 1992 in 5¼" format for the NEC PC-9801 (here's a photo ). Funny to think of an old floppy disk being used as digital music media (to be played alongside embedded artwork).

Wow! :D That's really retro. Doesn't really make a whole lot of sense...but they've done weirder.

Did they manage to save the music, too?

I actually tracked down the game and emulated it to get most of these images, there are a number of sound tracks, but they aren't as easy to extract as the graphics are.

If you're emulating it in Windows, you can record it directly from your sound card. Make sure nothing else noisy is running in the background (like an IM), then switch your recording input from Microphone to Wave (XP and below) or Stereo Mix (Vista/7). Because lolMicrosoft you may need to disable all of your other recording devices to get Stereo Mix to come up. Then, just record it as it plays using any program like Audacity.
Works great for hijacking songs off YouTube.
