A girl from my class is singing something to herself. It's not the first time she's done this, but for some reason, I find myself especially curious about her song today.
"...What kind of song are you singing?"
I walk up to her and ask a simple question. She looks like she's having so much fun, and her energy is infectious.
"Oh, it's my racewear song! I'm really looking forward to wearing it at my next race! I'll give it my all, like 'blaaaam!'"
She's singing because she's excited. And she's excited because she's going to run. Her explanation is so simple, but it resonates with me deeply.
"Good for you."
At some point, I forgot what it felt like to run for fun.
"Hey, do you wanna sing with me? Here, I'll count us in!"
"Whoa, r-right now?"
"A one, and a two! Hop, skip! Skip, hop! I'll give it my all! ♪"
"L-like 'blaaaam...'"
"Like 'blaaam!' Hehe, I can't wait for my next race!"
It's funny, I've only sung a single line with her, but I already feel a bit happier.
Right, races are supposed to be fun. There's no need to worry about the details. I just need to go out there and have fun!
