Hunting Moon "Hunter's Moon" is a term for the full moon after the Harvest Moon (generally October or sometimes November). Early recorded instances of the term come from 1700s England and attribute it to the rural population. An alternative claim attributing it to "Native Americans," usually without reference to any particular nation or language, has also become popular. The Lunaape "Ehalawiit Niipaahum," generally translated as "Hunting Moon," coincides with September and may be the source of this claim.

So named because it was the time when hunters found it easiest to catch their prey.
