在冷战最剑拔弩张的80年代，西德作为东西方阵营对峙的最前线，一旦热战爆发，前线所有的正规军用机场将在几小时内被华约的导弹彻底摧毁。为此，西德在举世闻名的Autobahn系统中，秘密修筑了近30段特殊的“高速公路备用跑道（Notlandeplatz / NLP）”。这些路段被去除了中央隔离带，铺设了足以承受战斗机起降的加厚混凝土。在一次突如其来的战备演习中，一段横跨平原的高速公路跨线桥被紧急征用。一架西德海军（Marineflieger）F-104G战斗机，正从这样一段被赋予特殊任务的灰白色公路桥面上呼啸拉起。

During the most volatile years of the Cold War in the 1980s, West Germany stood at the very frontline of the East-West standoff. Should a hot war erupt, all regular military airbases on the frontline would be utterly wiped out by Warsaw Pact missiles within hours. To counter this threat, West Germany secretly constructed nearly 30 special 'Highway Strips' (Notlandeplatz / NLP) within its world-renowned Autobahn system. These specific sections were stripped of their central medians and paved with reinforced concrete thick enough to withstand the grueling takeoffs and landings of fighter jets. In a sudden combat readiness exercise, a highway overpass spanning the plains has been urgently requisitioned. Roaring into the sky, a West German Naval Aviation (Marineflieger) F-104G fighter jet aggressively pulls up from this grayish-white concrete bridge, answering its unconventional calling.

冷戦の緊張が頂点に達した1980年代。東西陣営が対峙する最前線であった西ドイツでは、ひとたび戦火が交えられれば、前線の正規軍用飛行場はわずか数時間でワルシャワ条約機構軍のミサイルによって壊滅すると予想されていた。この脅威に対抗すべく、西ドイツは世界的に有名なアウトバーン（高速道路）網の中に、約30区間にも及ぶ特殊な『代替滑走路（Notlandeplatz / NLP）』を極秘裏に建設した。これらの区間は中央分離帯が取り外せる構造になっており、戦闘機の過酷な離着陸に耐えうるよう、分厚い強化コンクリートで舗装されていた。抜き打ちで行われた即応演習において、平原を横断する高速道路の高架橋が緊急徴用された。灰白色のコンクリート橋という特異な使命を帯びた舞台から、西ドイツ海軍航空隊（Marineflieger）のF-104G戦闘機が、轟音とともに空へと駆け上がっていく。
