The DOA fighters were always great for fighting, while the devs say 'We're gonna focus more on the fighting instead of the girls', the system hasn't changed that much from what's been released, they're essentially just saying that for those who never wanted to take DOA seriously as a fighter due to the fanservice.
Doubt DOAX helped any.
Err, also about Other M, that was Nintendo's story ideas, so blame them.

Other M was written and directed by Nintendo. Just because Nintendo was too lazy to do the actual hard lifting of game development doesn't mean Other M is Team Ninja's "fault". (I thought it was a pretty fun platformer, halfassed story aside, meaning that the parts Team Ninja was responsible for were fun while the parts Nintendo were responsible for were awful.)
