Everyone paid repeated attention. As I watched, I wondered if there wasn't some sort of priority connection. (^^;)
And the poll today is:
It's a great time now for watching for watching movies on the net. So, what was the first line speed you experienced? • 300 bps • 1200 bps • 2400 bps • 9600 bps • I'm not that old.
Mizuki-san notes that he started at 2400 bps. I think that was true for the first net connections I ever dealt with, though there may have been a very brief period of 1200 baud.
56k and that lovely sound it made while trying to log onto America Online. Lets not forget: *Trying different numbers on the start up screen for AOL to see which would work. *Waiting through the dialing and connecting only to get taken back to the start up screen. *[Add your memories as well}
My first online experience was around '94-'95 with Prodigy Internet. Me and my sister used to argue about which web browser was better ( I was for Internet Explorer, she swore by Netscape Navigator). In, fact, I still have that computer. 'scuse me while I go play some Hover.
Ah, goodness, discussions of dialup. I still remember those days fondly because I was on it until like '03... Heck, I still had old numbers to a free service which came in handy during a move around '06.
I was on 56k until I got to university, where we had T10 lines split twelve ways. It was like a miracle. Even with everyone running Morpheus (we didn't have torrents back then).
300 baud on an acoustic coupler here! After that I had a 2400 baud Hayes Smartmodem, which was made of metal and I swear I could kill someone with it and not lose carrier. That thing was invincible.
I miss BBSes. I started one up (did you know modems will work over VOIP? 26k baby!) but nobody cares.
I remember back when i had 56k dial-up. I used to wait 1 hour+ to download a 5 minute video. And i didn't even mind! I would grab a sandwich and watch some TV while i waited.
Gods, all I remember was trying to find porn. It's really amazing how hentai looks so different nowadays, ha ha ha, not to mention how easy to access they are now.
BadRoad said: It just occurred to me: They could've watched it on NicoNico from home.
They could, but I think that might ruin the experience of being part of the occasion.
And as a side, my first hand with internet modem was a 56k dial up and I can still hear it buzzing clearly today... though at the time, I hardly knew what to do with it.
I can't recall what speed I had as a kid. All I know is when softball season came around, you could kiss internet goodbye, since any call would kick you off. My dad was the manager/caretaker of the field/umpire, so we would get a ridiculous amount of calls.

Quote for extreme honesty.
Also I can't believe how old some of us all are. I'm 28.
I can still remember the time that my internet is just 458bps at most and I need to shout to the people using the telephone.
We've got a relay from Australia, so we're about to hook up to USTREAM.Oh, no way!?Yeah, right—as if!!We don't have the budget!K'shk
