Chocolate can be toxic to all animals based on how fast that species metabolizes the component that matters - theobromine - and how much bodymass the animal possesses. Even for humans, eating a lot of chocolate in one sitting can become a problem; however, it's hard to hit the required amount easily as its toxicity is about 1g per 1kg bodymass in primates (but bad theobromine reactions are more common for the elderly).
Published material on theobromine poisoning tends to cover mostly primates, canines, felines, and rodents. The assumption of any other animal group having a high chance for theobromine poisoning is usually just a guesstimated derivation of the data for these animals groups, mainly the dogs.
