There's a common myth that Tootsie Rolls were accidentally airdropped to the stranded Marines during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir because an air controller didn't know that "tootsie rolls" were code for 60mm mortar rounds. More likely, the Tootsie Rolls were simply distributed during the evacuation. That said, it's definitely true that Tootsie Rolls played a large part in the Marines' breakout from the encirclement, including plugging holes in engine parts.
