I can't remember which item I got for it, but I do remember actually trying to win second place because I liked its prize better. From what I could tell levels meant more than rarity when it came to placement, and rare pokemon usually had lower levels.

If you want to win first place, find a level 18 Caterpie/Weedle, put it to sleep, and catch it without hurting it.

i rmb i always catch scyther lvl 14 and win most of the time good times

They could have come up with a much better scoring system for the bug catching contest than they did. You lose points so many points for reducing the pokemon's HP, it's almost not even worth it to go for the rare ones.

A good bug collector never accepts squished or partially squished specimens.
