Mere arrows? In Gensokyo aka "The Land Where Magical Artillery Shelling is How You Greet the Day"? Really? I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but frankly, I find it hard to take anyone who would rely on a bow and arrow in Gensokyo seriously unless they have some kind of trick to it (ala invisible arrows, homing arrows, etc.) or its intended solely for an ambush. Eirin is the exception that proves the rule as far as I am concerned.
I will throw your argument back at you OmniGman(no malice intended). In a land of Magical abilities, what's stopping a person from inputting in their Ki/Magic into their weapons such as swords/shields and Bows/arrows?
Hell, Momiji doesn't even have to use a physical bow and arrow, she can "conjure" up one made of pure energy. Patchouli creates crystals out of thin air all the time.\
It kinda sounds like you're making fun of weapon users in general. Is Youmu dumb for using swords?
Tetsamaru, without the intent of being a ass and even if i am not a specialist in white wolf tengus, no matter how i look at her, i can't think her as being a 'caster' type, so conjuring stuff seems a bit off.
If i were to make a manga with momiji, it would be a scout (what afaik, she is), and far sight is very useful for that
And Youmu swords are magic swords that 'the things that they can't cut are close to nothing'.

This. It'd be one thing if the bow and arrow were magical in some way (as I mentioned in my previous comment), but Momiji doesn't strike me as high enough on the tengu hierarchy to be granted a potent magical weapon, nor does she strike me as a magical blacksmith.
As for relying on weapons being "dumb", of course not. Reliance on melee tools in a land where long-range duels are the norm is strange, but whenever you appear in a fighting game you'll be glad you bothered acquiring mastery of said weapons, though even then it's still limiting (poor Meiling was initially garbage tier in IaMP IIRC and I don't remember her being considered all that competitive in UNL).
Sorry for resurrecting this discussion, but I just need to throw in my two cents, if it's of any worth.
We also have to consider that when we first fought Momiji in the game proper (MoF), she was there as the Mountain Patrol Tengu, aka Sentry. She may have the eyesight to see a thousand li (which is excellent when you need to see anything and everything in your area of defense), but she has to intercept whatever is trying to go up the mountain.
Thus, the sword and shield is for intimidation. You can't intimidate someone if the person's dead before they even see you.

I agree with this. Momiji's a guard, not an assassin or rogue, so she would first attempt to drive unwanted intruders away from Youkai Mountain unharmed. Attacking without warning against everyone that approaches would just earn the tengu a lot of enemies, and while they may have enough martial strength to avoid annihilation, it would hurt their diplomatic relations with other societies in Gensoukyou. The combination of sword and shield, in addition to their combat value, are a recognizable visual symbol of her role in the tengu hierarchy.
By the way, not everyone has the timing to find a discussion while it's still in progress, so responding to an old thread shouldn't be that much of a problem. The previous "speakers" (or new ones) can reply at their own leisure; if not, old threads might as well be deleted periodically and all their information erased just because of time limits.

...Guess she's right. No matter where I go, I'm me.Anyway...There's a red-haired female outside the gate. She seems to be a youkai. She leaving? She went back inside. From how she looked around, she's evidently a guard or sentry. So she's at the bottom. As expected, she wouldn't leave the mansion so quickly....guess I should take a look around and go water the plants. That alone will never change.uhh...Nothing I do, or you do......changes at all, right?Like I always do...
