I've never understood the point of the Heal Ball. The only time it would be even remotely useful is at the very start of the game when you have less than six pokémon, and that early you only have normal balls anyway. It's definitely the most useless of all the special balls.

IIRC, some of the pokemon got bonuses if you caught them in a heal ball or something, but other than that it was just another junk pokeball.

Nope, it's just a ball that heals the mon you catch with it. Since most go to the box by the time you get them, it's more or less junk.
