Well, it is, but it's also really funny and heart-wamring, too. Watching it was like riding a roller coaster while blindfolded, you will never see what coming and slap you in the face.

Nowhere near as depressing as Fantastic Children, but it does have enough sad moments to maintain the drama. Like Mei chiri said, there are plenty of heart-warming moments and a plot twist that genuinely slapped me in the face.
It never falls into a hole so deep that it doesn't climb out of.
But ultimately, I believe it wasn't worth my time. It was stretched out far too long and couldn't decide if it was silly or serious.
The aliens in charge of the invasion have an argument about whether or not to continue the invasion; it devolves into a cartoonish pie-throwing food-fight.
In previous episodes, entire pavilions of human beings were gobbled up by the alien robots and dissolved alive in acid. Robots sent by THESE childish assholes! And no one calls them out on this.
The plot twists regarding the alien motivations were asspulls that left no time for proper explanations about the "new real story" and killed all drama.
