I'm wondering how that wrist joint moves. It doesn't look like it could allow for anything other than back-and-forth movement, but I may be wrong. Someone care to explain?

The wrist joint you see here is a ball and socket joint. It's pretty much the same principle as a normal wrist joint, only has the wrist joint restrictions when it comes to bending left and right.
