In the 2009 Triple Tiara circuit, Buena Vista and Red Desire were fierce rivals, with the two finishing first and second respectively in both the Oka Sho and the Oaks. Desire would then deny Buena her Triple Tiara by a nose in the Shuka Sho (Buena was later penalised for obstructing Broad Street, so she ended up in third in the official results).

Incidentally, the Shuka Sho was Red Desire's only G1 victory in her career. Buena Vista's later G1 wins were the 2010 Victoria Mile, the 2010 Autumn Tenno Sho, and the 2011 Japan Cup (her second attempt, after she was penalised in her first attempt), leaving her with six G1 wins in her career (her first being the 2008 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies).
