To be fair, Busou Renkin wasn't the most "Popular" shounen series. With how many series that are created to try to be the next DBZ or Naruto, alot are bound to never be anything more than a cult classic.
My only complaint about Busou Renkin was not actually having any sort of "Alchemy" at all. I mean, it sorta was there, but all offscreen. You might as well have substituted Alchemy with "Magic" in the series. On the off hand, Full Metal Alchemist went the other entire end of the spectrum and actually talked about ingrediants and mixing and other stuff.

Correction, most series are trying to be the next DBZ, Naruto is just one of them

They never really said anything about BR trying to be something, they said that BR is a classic while most aim "try" and be something.

He's in seinen now? first I've heard of it. It's just as well that he did seeing how shounen is basically DBZ rip off central.
I heard both manga and anime ran into trouble concerning a certain character's "death" (he wasn't really dead)
