Let me guess: first, it was the Commander whom Sheffield was wacking. And second, Dido and Edinburgh got caught by the snares Belfast had just set. Am I right?

First: Yes.
Second: No. Little Renown went around Belfast's trap, apprehended and restrained Dido (and her doll) and Edinburgh, and made off with the desserts and tea. And that's terrible
This is the continuation of Little Renown's arc that I hastily instituted into the storyline when she was first announced over five years ago. What happened was Little Renown was introduced and then a month later, Little Illustrious was introduced and I corrected the storyline to include both in a manageable fashion. It's one of the earlier story arcs for this comic. Anyway, I thought it would be funny if Little Renown, on her way to the Royal Navy, was forwarded to the wrong transport and ended up with 1st Marine Division.
This isn't an original joke on my part, the newspaper comic Shoe had an annual running gag where the preteen Skyler was always being shipped off by his uncle Cosmo to what he assumed was a typical summer camp for kids but always turned out to be US Marine Corps Boot Camp. Being a Marine myself, I found this sort of thing to be very funny.
Little Renown's entire character is taking everything (perhaps a bit too) seriously and always rolling with the punches so this was the perfect fit for her. And ended up with the 1st Marine Division she did, first stop, the helo dunker. US Marines are like Warhammer's Orks with how everything that explodes as well as big guns delighting them to no end, so of course they readily adopted Little Renown into their training regimen. To which she naturally excelled, which also created the pipeline for her to Force Recon. Little Renown was also trained in counterespionage, unconventional warfare, and every other sort of business the late great Sir Christopher Lee described as "ungentlemanly".
Liz saw her medals and badges from her training when she came to pick her up several months later, which she commented on. Anyway, Little Renown isn't one to brag so this is the first time they've witnessed her skills.

In fairness to Belfast, she wouldn't necessarily recognize the significance of wearing both a SCUBA badge and jump wings. Although, Sheffield might have. One wonders if, after this is over, Sheffield might sit down with Little Renown and compare notes. Given her characterization, I always thought that our Sheffie might have spent some time at Hereford and Poole.
(ETA: Liz might not have recognized it, either. But she probably appreciates it now...)

This would be a good chance for a cameo with Eric Iddle; he enters Liz's room, telling her he learned what happened to her. And then starts singing "Always look on the bright side of life". As he song goes on, Liz begins to cheer up, and everyone, including her, join Eric, and Liz's moid upgrades. Her tears of sadness, become tears of happiness.
