The _(series) qualifier really isn't necessary; bokujou_monogatari is fine.

I think what he was getting at was the first game is just titled Bokujou Monogatari (Harvest Moon) and so he was giving the first game the bokujou_monogatari tag, though if the tag is necessary then making a new Bokujou_Monogatari_1 for the first game should be fine, with harvest_moon_1 aliased over. It would free up the Bokujou_monogatari and Harvest_moon tags to be catchalls for the whole series.

Personally I prefer "Harvest Moon" over the Japanese name, but then again it's just cause I'm much more familiar with it. I'll have to try and remember the Japanese name or it'll end up another series where I won't recognize the name when I first see it.

"Harvest Moon" is what I'm familiar with as well, and I wonder if we can make this series another exception to the rule. This series isn't exactly new, the Japanese doesn't seem all too fond of it, and these aliases strike me as being "Japanese for Japanese's sake" rather than any genuine confusion.

But it could be confusing, since the official English title of Futago no Mura is "Tale of Two Towns", not "Twin Villages" as our tag calls it. For that one and "The Land of Origin" ("Hajimari no Daichi", which has no English version yet) we seem to be using fan translations as a tag name.

The situation would be analogous to if we tagged karigurashi_no_arrietty as the_borrower_arrietty, and then the English version is released with the title "The Secret World of Arrietty".

If we are keeping the English names, then can we at least alias harvest_moon_twin_villages to harvest_moon:_the_tale_of_two_towns, the official English title?

I'm not too keen on using a fanmade title (harvest_moon_the_land_of_origin), as stated above, but at the very least it seems to be consistent with what the gaming news sites are calling it.

The developer of the game, Marvelous AQL, is having XSEED Games/Marvelous USA publish the game in North America. Natsume has been the previous publisher for the series in North America and holds the rights to the "Harvest Moon" name, so the game is being released in North America under the new name "Story of Seasons" instead. The Japanese title for the game is Bokujō Monogatari: Tsunagaru Shin Tenchi, so in Japanese still retains the Japanese series name in the title. I figure this may be a problem with the usage of the Harvest Moon naming scheme, since now we have a game in the series that lacks the Harvest Moon name in the title for the North America release.

Update: Apparently to add to this, Natsume announced that they're developing their own new Harvest Moon game which has no ties to the Bokujō Monogatari line, outside of also being a farming based game.

I agree, now with more harvest moon and story of seasons game being produced in parallel, things is getting more confusing. Bumping the post for alias change.

Turn harvest_moon into a disambiguation tag, with its wiki pointing to either bokujou_monogatari or harvest_moon_(natsume).

Alias the English titles to the corresponding Japanese titles for Bokujou Monogatari, and have those Japanese titles imply the series tag (with an added alias for Story of Seasons). Meanwhile, have the Natsume games imply the new Natsume copyright tag, maintaining their English titles.

At least, that's what would make sense in my eyes, for the copyrights, that is. Aliases for the character tags would be another difficulty to overcome.

After some thought, I realized that the aliases for the character names wouldn't be so difficult, as the active tags would have "bokujou_monogatari", and "harvest_moon" only in the aliases, and the Natsume series characters would need to stick "_(natsume)" at the end anyway due to the copyright.
