Hard to say. If none is obviously preferable, then the older gets preference. But I'm not sure if just being sourced with non-404 makes it obviously preferable.

I don't agree. I personally like the original source to remain there, even if it's a 404, so we know where exactly the original image came from. If there's a new, different version, then it's been modified in some way and is a different image, so the source shouldn't be pointing there.
I'd be less opposed to source changing if it was actually tracked, though (I don't think it is? Which makes that a bit of a problem).

I was thinking more about the type of situation where an artist's pixiv account is taken down, and all source links give an invalid ID error. In that case, I think it's better changing the sources, provided that the pics are identical, of course. Otherwise, I agree that it's better to leave it and add the alternative sites in the wiki.

I just tend to get annoyed seeing the source taking me to a different version of the image. I'd rather the link be accurate, even if otherwise useless because the artist took the image or their account down. It's less of a problem if the image is exactly identical, though I still like to know where the image originally came from.
