BUR #40510 has been approved by @WRS.

create alias armsomeone -> yoruhanamai

Why are you trying to remove the alias? Just forward alias it. You can't accept it because it's trying to rename to an aliased tag, and this should be an alias to begin with.

Sorry, I have no idea how BUR should handle this situation.
But could you please be a bit more polite? You seem to treat those who aren't builders better than me.
I’ll just stop caring about these messy things in the future.

@NekoAria Sorry if the tone or intent isn't clear; I said that with a neutral intention in mind. This is how I reply to most posts. Most artist tags should be aliased instead of renamed, so prior to communication with the artist, it was unclear why you were trying to remove the alias to accept the failing rename BUR when you could've (and should've) aliased it instead so as to be able to accept it as a builder without admin intervention.

I don't know how else to word it without sounding pretentious - I just told you how they're usually handled so you can do it as a builder, which is that they should be aliases, and there's no need to unalias to accept a rename unless you had prior communication with the artist which was unclear from your post.

@WRS I need to clarify that I was initially the one who discovered the artist had manually renamed their artist entry.
I rolled back their modification, then created an alias through BUR #40476, and contacted them via DMails suggesting they proceed with a rename through BUR.

Perhaps I shouldn't have created BUR #40476 in the first place, but instead waited until BUR #40507 was created by the artist, then approved it directly.

To be honest, when I first tried to approve BUR #40507 and it didn't work, I thought it was a network issue on my end, so I tried approving it again.
After it failed to respond a second time, I finally understood what happened, especially after reviewing this thread.
I realized that because of my previously created BUR #40476, `yoruhanamai` had become an alias of `armsomeone`, which prevented me from approving the rename of `armsomeone` to `yoruhanamai`.

I believe the current BUR mechanism and feedback aren't sufficiently clear, or perhaps I overlooked something - if so, please let me know.
Specifically in this situation, I had no prior knowledge of the `forward alias` operation.

Rolling back a manual rename is fine and expected. The alias is also fine, since you didn't know prior. Since no one mentioned anything about wanting to disassociate the previous name until the artist followed up with me in a DMail, I saw the BURs as they were and thought that you were trying to unalias it to switch the tag which could've just been done with an alias instead. It wasn't until the artist followed up with me in private that I figured out they didn't want the previous name associated.

In other words; I originally was confused why you were trying to unalias, since you could just alias if you wanted to swap which one would be the main tag. If one tag is aliased to another, approving an alias in the reverse direction will swap which one is aliased away. Don't worry about it, it was just confusion due to lack of information.
