Tag Questions: when_you_see_it

Posted under General

Pardon if this has been discussed before or brought up since I can't seem to find anything on it, but I was wondering about this tag. I've read the wiki and understand what its intention is, but isn't that somewhat of a subjective subject and thus more Pool material than tag material?

For instance, one of the posts with that tag was said to have been tagged for Cirno because it looked somewhat like her arms behind her back are forming a 9. And it somewhat looks like a 9, but not strikingly so and just as much looks like just her holding her arms behind her back. Though the arm reasoning was conjecture.

That's the other thing I want to ask about the when_you_see_it tag; how does one confirm the tag or not? Almost none of the posts with the tag have comments from the uploaders/taggers as to why it was given the tag or not. So when I look at an image with the tag and see nothing shocking/off/odd/startling about it, I just need to assume that whoever added the tag put it on the image for a reason, since I can't disprove that there's something hidden.

Really though, I get the idea and I do like it. I just think it would be better as a pool really. And pool or not it would be really nice if people who put the tag on an image would post a comment (with spoiler bar) with what there is to see that makes the tag/pool inclusion appropriate.

Being a meme it does seem more like pool fodder then tag worthy.

As to the second part sometimes it can be tricky and someone just has to eventually go through the tag/pool and clean it up.

It's always best to err on the side of caution when thinking about cleaning tags/pools.

Just looking at the last few pages a few that stood out

As their are hidden/easy to miss.

Both are very obvious and not even intended to be a "hidden image/object" by all accounts.

Don't see it

This was brought up in the past; the reason it's a tag is because pools appear at the top of the image so it's like a glowing signpost that there's something to see.

Part of the appeal of "when you see it" is going "well this is a nice pic-AAAHHHH", so knowing it's there from the start kind of ruins it.

My problem with that logic is that if you simply click on the tag like I did, you know all the images you click have something in them anyways. As much as a tag may be less obvious than a pool banner at the top, I'm not sure aesthetic decisions should have anything to do with whether something is a tag or a pool.

Besides, if we really want it to be a surprise like that, don't even put a tag there; that way there's no way people will know until they see it. And while I'd rather have a pool for it and...some way for people to see what's hidden, for those of us who miss itI'd still rather have no tag at all then some tag that "people aren't supposed to see anyways" and that you can't prove is there for a reason or not.

It was most likely added due to one of the comments:

You know, all this time I was convinced her left arm was reaching downwards... it wasn't until you guys pointed it out that I noticed she's actually grabbing her head and I've had this image for years.
Best optical illusion or bestest optical illusion?

Clear misuse, but that's often the case with older images and tags like this.
