cloud ---> clouds

Posted under General

Please hear me out. There is no such thing as a "cloud", it is always plural. (see opposite of ninja). So you can tag an image that shows a single cloud as "clouds" but you can't tag an image that shows several "clouds" as "cloud".

I agree that "clouds" is more common than "cloud", but it's certainly a word that has a singular form think of phrases like "not a cloud in the sky" or "that cloud looks sort of like a rabbit" or "hail stones form as small bits of ice circulate within a storm cloud".

As far as usage here, it was one of the aliases that was reversed shortly after we switched from a default "singular → plural" policy to the current "plural → singular" policy.

The same thing happened to star and ultimately led to the creation of starry sky. Perhaps we need an analogous cloudy sky tag here, and reserve cloud for true single instances of clouds.

EDIT: We actually already have a cloudy sky tag we could move things to if we decide to.
