If you want consistency with plaid_skirt, then you want tartan_background -> plaid_background. The alias you're referencing that already exists is tartan_skirt -> plaid_skirt, not plaid_skirt -> tartan_skirt.
You may have confused this with the pattern, as there is a plaid -> tartan alias as well.

I sort of think we ought to reverse plaid → tartan as well for consistancy's sake. At least in my experience, "plaid" is a much more common word for the pattern.
Furthermore "tartan" has a more specific meaning that "plaid" doesn't, meaning the specific colors and designs that indicate a specificly defined Scottish clan. In the modern world this is almost never the case anymore (outside, say, bagpipers or the Scotts themselves).
i see. the reason i just brought is up is because there seems to an existing alias to *plaid* <-> *tartan*. it really does not matter to me by which particular order. it just happened that in every plaid tag there seems to be a corresponding tartan tag, so maybe doing the same for the background might provide some sort of consistency.
regarding the specifics of "tartan", honestly, i was never aware of it and its existence before. i discovered it by accident it upon reviewing and rechecking my submitted tags. so whatever the decision for the reversal, i'll maybe just support it too.
