Tags Bow versus bowtie

Posted under General

Many use the "bow" tag for pictures containing bowties. This is an unnecessary ambiguity.
There's a tag for bowtie already, still someone felt the need to create a "bow_(weapon)" tag ..?
It makes much more sense to use the "bow" tag for the weapon than for the abbreviation of an already short enough word, "bowtie". And to begin to classify bow types would be expecting a lot from the members..

What I suggest is to put bowtie posts where they belong, and to get rid of the superfluous "bow_(weapon)" tag.
Anyone disagree? Discuss.

Bows on a dress or in the hair are typically what 'bow' is meant for. These are not bowties. Bow_(weapon) is an entirely different category alltogether. Since we have three semanticly different things here we need three tags. We currently have 71 pictures tagged 'bowtie', 168 tagged 'bow_(weapon)', and 586 tagged 'bow'. Since hair and dress bows are both most common and most general, it makes the most sense that they keep the tag 'bow'.

"someone" is possibly me (I know hair_bow is one of mine and I've disambiguated a number of tags but can't remember for certain if bow_(weapon) is one of them).
A bowtie is just a __type__ of bow. You make one everytime you tie your shoelaces. While all images with bowties should be correctly labelled with bowtie, changing all occurances of bow to bowtie would be like calling all cars racing cars.

The bow tag is marked as ambiguous, but when you click on that notice, it doesn't come up with bow_(weapon). Is that a bug? It'd be more useful to have that tag list sorted by number of occurences, and to always include the most-used tags instead of the ones that come first alphabetically.
