Image in post #3698 is broken

Bottom part of image is missing, I think the cause is an incomplete upload.

You can only see this in an external image viewer, in a browser the image looks perfect (I tested Firefox and IE).

I apologize for the terrible English, it is not my first language.

He's saying the upload was incomplete, there's an abnormal amount of whitespace at the bottom and if you open it in an external viewer you will see where it glitches. (Confirming error.)

Someone said the error is confirmed somehow in an external viewer, but it's not all that uncommon for this (the whitespace, that is) to be perfectly intentional even if it wasn't in this case.

An image might be part of the background for a site, meant to take up a fixed number of pixels, even if the image itself isn't that exact side. So it's saved with the blank space as part of the picture.

The artist tomoeda, for example, has a number of those.

I was wondering what in the world you guys were talking about, so I did a little testing. It turns out that Firefox sucks at JPEG, too: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/9074/failfox2qy2.png

Here's what it looks like in a decent browser: http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4652/safari3ud7.png

I also tested the Firefox 3 beta, because I really wanted to be able to say "it's broken now, but they're fixing it in the next release". But they're not, it's still just as broken as before.

Bottom line, Firefox is the new IE, and you should switch to something else. I assume Opera works, because it always works (except for the UI, which is unbearable). IE8 might also be an option when it gets released.

On the subject of firefox and images (tangentially at least) I've had the annoying problem for some time where if I interrupt an image loading in firefox (i.e. by clicking a link or the back before all the images on the page have loaded) my computer hangs completely and has to be cold booted. This happens both in Firefox and Lolifox, which are both in different directories, and has survived updates. Needless to say it is very annoying.

Yep here same effect on Shiira (engine safari with another interface) too bad the popup blocker just plain sucks, some sites make abuse of popunders and popups and makes it a difficult choice to me.

ATi on WinXP. Have no problem in IE however.

That's how bugs work. IE is probably using some other subsystem or invokes the APIs in a different way that doesn't trigger the bug, or whatever. But the fact that your entire system goes down is very indicative of that being the drivers' (FSVO drivers, anyway) fault, not Firefox per se.
