Difference between neko and catgirl

I was wondering about this too. I decided on tagging them as cat_ears, animal_ears, and tail, depending on which parts were visible. When I search for cat girls, I usually search using cat_ears or tail.

neko = cat
mimi = ears
nekomimi = cat ears
if there is no cat in the picture, i would think neko is unapropriate. And there is an alias catgirl -> cat_ears. So I think you should just use cat_ears, and if there is a tail, bell, add thoses too.
