2 Comments an hour

Posted under General

Oof. 2 comments an hour? I think that's a bit harsh; especially when you first arrive/arrive back for the first time in a long time. Is it to prevent spam? I think it'd be hard to "truly" spam even with 4 or 5 comments an hour.
Just my two cents.

Before there were comment limits, almost every comment was completely vapid and annoying.
So, I wouldn't want new users to post more than one comment on their first day.
Probably 2 is too low of a number, however.

Why not edit your original post?

Speaking of which (slightly o/t), is there a reason we can't edit our comments on images? It's not super necessary I guess but it'd be nice.

On topic, I didn't feel 2 comments an hour was too little although I did bump into the limit all the time before getting invited. But with 4 I still don't see how that would cause a mass onslaught of spam.

Then again, we have comments like this: post #157633.

Yeah. When I look at the list of comments to be deleted, I see a lot that... well, have no reason to be deleted. As long as they weren't bumped.

But if someone else responds and does bump it, you have no way of telling if the earlier post was bumped. And so people report things they find useless, even if the poster went to the trouble to not bump.

So I don't delete comments unless they're spoilers, spam, etc.

The whole 2-posts an hour thing is really frustrating. It sucks to have a meaningful comment that, lo and behold, is void in 10 minutes later, let alone an hour, because a privileged user made the same comment; especially since privileged users have nothing to prove. (Although, it is good that someone's making the point anyways.)
And sorry if that sounds in any way angry/flaming. Just frustrated, is all.

You have nothing to prove through comments either.

And commenting on posts is not going to get you a priviledged account. Period.

You want priviledged status, upload good images.
