What do you when you encounter plagiaristic and copy-cat Pixiv artists?

Posted under General

I began to upload from this Pixiv account (http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=1677373) which I thought belonged to ky. At first I thought it was second account by the artist. After all, it is not unheard of that artists make new accounts or change names. However, the first account was still online and I thought that maybe there's some kind of wait period before an account is deleted or something. I then encountered a lower res version of post #587140, which was done by g scream and not ky and that's when I knew something wasn't right.

So are there any guidelines or polices in place in regards to handling fraudulent accounts? This isn't the first account I've encounted that I've suspected to be a fake.

We're not pixiv itself, so the most we can do is to take care with posts here, ensuring that any art that gets posted here is correctly attributed to the original artist, and to avoid uploading plagiarized versions when we know it to be so.

If you know nihongo you might want to drop a note to the original artist on pixiv to let them know, or clarify things. I'm not sure if pixiv has any mechanism for handling plagiarism, but that's beyond the scope of danbooru, in any case.

I've seen a couple of artist entries mentioning that s/he frequently plagiarizes others, noting the usual victims. Can't locate that at the moment, but I find that helpful, too.

*Translator note: Nihongo means Japanese.

Yes though, I agree, let the artist know about it. They may send you a free print. :D
