What we expect from Approvers
- Approvers are expected to approve posts that they think are up to danbooru's quality standards. A good rule of thumb is posts that they would upload themselves.
- Approvers must approve at least 30 posts every 45 days, or they will be automatically demoted back to contributor level.
- Approvers that lose their role due to inactivity and wish to become active again can message a mod or admin to get their role back.
- Approvers are expected to enable 2FA to secure their account (Settings > Security > Two-factor authentication).
Who can apply:
- Contributor-level users in good standing (no recent bans)
- Lower-level users will only be considered in exceptional circumstances (see the FAQ)
How to apply:
- Create a new favgroup. It must not be private.
- Add at least 200 non-active (pending, deleted, appealed or flagged) posts that you think should be active to your new favgroup, and vote on the posts.
- You must vote on each post you're adding to the favgroup. It doesn't matter if it's a downvote or upvote, but voting on each post is mandatory.
- Posts you have voted on in the past are also ok.
- Posts submitted without a vote will be considered invalid.
- Favgroups with less than 200 valid posts will be ignored.
- The more posts you add the better. Don't rush it, you have time.
- It doesn't matter if posts you add are approved by someone else after, they will still be valid.
- When you're ready, submit the favgroup via DMail here.
- Only people who pass the selection will receive a reply back. If you don't get a reply within two weeks, assume you didn't pass.
- If you didn't pass, you can apply again after 6 months by sending a new favgroup.
Helpful Tips
- Use posts that YOU like, that YOU would approve if you were promoted, not posts that you think we will like. Use your true judgement.
- If we promote you and you start approving mediocre stuff that you intentionally left out of your favgroup, you're going to get demoted anyway, so there's no point in cheating.
- Don't try to artificially craft a perfect favgroup only containing popular posts that you know are going to be approved. Having high quality deleted posts that should be active or posts from niche copyrights/interests in the favgroup tells us that you are going to improve the site meaningfully.
- We carefully and manually inspect each candidate, so we can tell if you're trying to game the system: no scenery rating:g-only favgroups if all you upload and favorite is rating:e posts.
- See is:modqueue for all currently pending, appealed or flagged posts.
- See status:deleted for all currently deleted posts. Add fav:yourusername or any other tag you care about for better filtering.

FAQ:
How much time do I have to apply? When will the trials close?
Take as much time as you want. We're gonna try this for a while as an experiment, so there's no immediate deadline.
Take your time, browse the site normally, add pending or deleted posts to your favgroup that you think should be active, and apply when the favgroup meets the required size.
Can I add more posts to the favgroup after I've sent it?
If we've already evaluated the favgroup, then any addition will be pointless as favgroups are only checked once. It's recommended that you don't send the favgroup until it's ready for submission.
What if a pending post I added to the favgroup gets approved?
That's ok, it will still count as long as you voted on it, so don't remove it from the favgroup. The important part is that you add it to the favgroup (and vote on it) while it's pending or deleted.
Why must I vote on posts that I'm adding to the favgroup?
Because we compare vote timestamps to approval time to make sure that you are not cheating by adding already-active posts to your favgroup.
You can remove your vote from the posts afterwards if you don't want them to appear in your vote list, but it's mandatory to vote on each post at least once.
Posts that you voted on in the past are already valid, so you don't need to refresh your vote on them.
Can I still apply if I'm not a contributor?
Sure, but it's unlikely that you will pass, unless you show exceptional quality standards or you're a user who somehow slipped through regular promotions. Feel free to apply regardless of your user level though, you never know!
