Tales of Phantasia tag alias

Posted under General

Shouldn't there be an alias between some of the characters' alternate names, like cless_alvein and cress_albane? Searching cress_albane currently gets no results. If someone didn't know that their names had different spellings and only had one name to go on (*cough*), it could lead to confusion.

Localization

Many fans were unhappy with the localized GBA port of Tales of Phantasia, in part because they were introduced to the game through the DeJap fan translation of the super Famicom version.[citation needed] In particular, the translations of many important characters' names were different. Whether the GBA translators changed them in order to sound less awkward as English names is unknown, but existing fans were accustomed to the romanized names that had been used for almost a decade in Japan in either Phantasia's marketing and merchandise, or in the original games themselves (the names are in the credits).[citation needed] The term "Ragnarok" was also mistranslated as "Kangaroo," sparking derision from fans.[citation needed]

Stick with the non-butchered versions of their names. The GBA localization was rather poorly done and shouldn't be used as a judging point. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImcRPOqqQPw to act as the missing citation.

We'll use the Japanese romanizations then, especially since it doesn't seem like the official localized names are dramatically more sensible than the originals or anything.

Done. Are there more than just the four?
