if you upload an 1up you're supposed to make the 1down the child, but the 1up isn't guaranteed to get approved. this means you can end up replacing the active sibling of a post with a deleted sibling and the deleted sibling won't be visible by default, somehow making the situation worse by uploading the a better quality version of an active post.
