Tied up - sexual or not?

Posted under General

I noticed that @gfz changed a whole bunch of posts from tied up (nonsexual) to bondage (aka. tied up (sexual)), but I fail to see anything sexual in many (if not most) of them.

Is someone getting entangled bondage? (post #1384859, post #912668)
Is someone getting caught and tied up in the most generic way bondage? (post #1131422, post #1650348)
Is “the present is me” bondage? (post #2008448, post #1326100)

Admittedly, I don’t have a bondage fetish and most of my knowledge of bondage comes from the Internet teaching me things I didn’t ask for, so could someone more knowledgeable enlighten me if these posts can actually be considered bondage and not just someone simply tied up? Especially since some of these posts are rated G and bondage should be Q (or I guess S if it’s really tame).

I was under the impression bondage required very explicitly sexual intentions (a group of guys standing around a girl with her wrists bound, for example) if it wasn't "typical" bondage like shibari.

At the very least, the examples you linked definitely shouldn't be tagged bondage, and I'd be very interested in hearing why they were.

While there is an ongoing problem of people using "nonsexual" to mean "sex isn't actively happening in this post", most of these seem to be pretty much SFW. The only iffy one is post #1326100, which had "tied up" before it was changed to "nonsexual" - it's pretty much a prelude to a naked ribbon situation.

The old tied up tag was always supposed to be the "not in a blatantly sexual context" counterpart to bondage, despite common misuse. Everything not tagged bondage was originally tagged tied up before it was replaced by tied up (nonsexual).

I noticed the other day that there were seemingly a tremendous amount of post tagged tied_up_(nonsexual) that seemed extremely sexual, usually predating topic #19306, so I attempted to go through and garden posts. Based on my reading of bondage and tied_up_(nonsexual) I would consider something bondage if the character's position seems sexually charged, even if the way in which they are restrained doesn't seem to be.

For example, post #2008448 shows a character restrained for the sexual gratification of another person - I wouldn't consider that 'nonsexual'
post #1326100 seems to be intended to titillate the viewer based on the amount of cleavage, so again I went with bondage.

A lot of the posts are in a grey area, and I personally think tied_up_(nonsexual) should be more conservatively applied than bondage in borderline situations, but this is just my opinion.

That said, I definitely missed the mark on some of these - I apologize for that and thank you for bringing it up.

I agree with post #1326100 being sexual, with her being naked and all, but post #2008448 is romantic rather than sexual.
