If you post 1000 images with a <1% deletion ratio, not getting builder would be a shock.

I got builder after a month with 0 uploads just by being meticulous with tag updating. Checked for dupe artist entries, saw what I could identify under character_request -copyright_request, and cleaned out deprecated tags. Lots of ways to help out without knowing Japanese (though my ability to read kana does help sometimes ngl).

Fully manual, which I always thought was a bit ridiculous, when a similarly large platform like Zerochan can give graduated reward tiers automatically.

We actually care about the quality of our users' contributions, so incentivizing people to amass a large number of lazy contributions by having automatic promotions would never work for us. It would just create more work when we have to clean up afterwards and demote people that didn't actually deserve the promotion.

People looking to cause problems aren't usually people wiling to spend money. People willing to spend money can be assumed to be unwilling to do anything that would have their purchase revoked. I assume people that get banned don't get refunds.
Obviously that's not universal, of course some Gold/Plat users have gotten themselves banned. But generally speaking, people that buy the upgrade don't care about the tag scripting option, because they don't care about contributing. They just want better searching and to see hidden content.
I think someone who won the raffle did get themselves demoted and banned, but that's just been one out of however many winners there have been so far. Those are all also still personally picked by the admins, even if it's luck. That's a whole other thing from anyone and everyone being able to get Gold just by making a thousand tag edits or something that no one's been able to verify.

The former we can easily solve by just requiring X number of posts with Y deletion rate. Set deletion rate to <3% or something and make it 500 posts.
For the latter, people aiming to get gold want the lolis or multiple tags, that's about it so I don't see the issue.

There's still the possibility of users reaching that many approved uploads while still doing things that may show they're not fit for the role. Rather than having the promotion happen automatically, a better way would be to display a notification for mods and admins alerting them when users meet specific criteria. Their activity can then be investigated further to determine whether they should be promoted.

+1 and this basically already happens. The admin doing most promotions has automated tools to make identifying candidates a lot easier. That's probably why promotion waves are generally pretty large, since manually doing those checks would take way too long

I don't know how you did this, I tried some character requests, and couldn't identify any, I'll just stick to translations, seems way easier to me XD

In many cases you can search up the anime on myanimelist and look at the characters there and connect that info here to the character design.
