Quick question about artist permission

Posted under General

Sorry if these examples had permission from the artists, but I doubt it, for now.

These artists has written in the commentary, twitter bio or on the image itself to not reprint, repost or republish their stuff, just wanted to know if it's in Danbooru's custom to be cool with it.

This one was a patreon reward. I talked to the artists, and they referred to it as a leak, so that's cool too? They didn't want to request a take down because they didn't want their whole artist tag to be banned.

Thanks!

That’s a standard phrase slapped on by some artists. Danbooru has never cared about that. If artists don’t want their stuff on Danbooru, they need to follow the instructions.

(Also, if artists don’t want other people uploading their stuff elsewhere, they shouldn’t post it on the Internet. Retaining control over something published on the Internet is illusory. Danbooru is one of the few places actually complying with artists’ wishes upon request.)

See paid_reward: uploading paid rewards is inadvisable but permitted. An artist can request to have only their paid rewards banned (see ricegnat).

In the end, it's your own moral standing that decides whether you want to upload those kind of posts or not. But you should never flag something for that reason alone, it has happened before and will probably happen again.

I get that, I know there's a way for artist to get their stuff down. What troubles me is that the artists don't even know when their stuff is uploaded. And even when they do, you think a Japanese-only speaker can read through a forum to find that disclaimer? Latest example is probably that kkamja artist.

I checked their tag before it was banned, they were quite a few. Must've took a minute to realize. Anyways, thanks for the clarification.

Actually, I believe artists have even been convinced of the usefulness of sites like this, as it gives more exposure to their works and gains them fans in a wider variety of countries than they normally would have gotten, especially for translated works. That's why we also have a robust artist identification system, so that credit can be properly attributed and all of an artist's works can be collected under one label.
